If I have to pick between wielding knives in a professional kitchen or attending a blind tasting with wine professionals, I will always pick the knives. Wine can be stressful! This is why I wrote this book, a simple guide to sharing food and wine at the table. It’s what I wished I had when I was starting out in the culinary world.

Wine Style is organized by types of wine, from the most effervescent sparkling bottles to the richest port and passito. There are also crisp white wines, rich white wines, orange wines, picnic reds, big reds, and other styles along the way).

Each chapter starts with a primer on wines and follows with recipes designed to make the tasting all the more fun. If you need ideas for picnics casual hang-out sessions, or any excuse to get together with wine, this book has you covered.

Pairing food and wine can be intimidating. We get it. That’s why author Kate Leahy wrote Wine Style: Discover the Wines You Will Love Through 50 Simple Recipes, to find “a happy middle ground” between the wines and the food you like.—Sunset Magazine

“Kate Leahy brings wine down to earth for those of us who are casual drinkers (rather than pros), who want to know how to find what we like, and who enjoy what we’re drinking. She also provides recipes for delicious snacks, appetizers, and other nibbles to accompany every type of red, white, rosé, and bubbly. Under Kate’s easygoing guidance, Wine Style is one of the most approachable books on wine I’ve seen, and it’ll take anyone’s appreciation of wine to new—and delicious—levels.”—David Lebovitz, author of Drinking French

“Her first solo cookbook just released and it's a marvelous, democratic work about learning to identify your personal wine style. Nowadays, her wine style is "charming and affordable", bottles she can generously share with friends in casual settings. She serves her wine with food -- unfussy preparations that she can throw together with ease. That's what you'll find in her cleverly titled book, Wine Style.” —Andrea Nguyen, author of Vietnamese Food Any Day

“Food writer and former chef Leahy (La Buvette) covers wine basics and pairs popular varieties with inventive recipes in this enchanting guide….”—Publisher’s Weekly

The mostly-finger-food recipes are exactly what you want for a summer cocktail hour outdoors (or as Leahy calls it, Porch Time), but you could turn to this book for a killer ginger chicken salad regardless of whether you’re drinking at all.”—Lauren Joseph, Epicurious, The 6 Best New Cookbooks of Summer 2201

“Wine Style is chock full of smart, enticing recipes that not only pair well with your favorite reds, whites, and oranges, but are easy and delicious enough that they’re sure to become perennial favorites — dishes you’ll constantly be tossing together when friends are unexpectedly stopping by, when you’re heading to a picnic, hosting book club, or even on harried weeknights when you want an effortless yet satisfying dinner.”—Leslie Brenner, Cooks Without Borders

“Traditional wine pairing rules often keep casual drinkers stuck, but Kate Leahy’s new book assures you don’t need to be a Level I Sommelier to pair with confidence, either.” —Fine Cooking, August/September 2021
