Critics’ scores

Neal Martin (Vinous) said there was ‘plenty of crunchy black fruit infused with graphite’ and that it ‘will deserve 5-7 years in bottle’. He gave it a score of 93-95 points.

The 2021 vintage of Les Carmes is an ‘intensely individual wine’, said the Wine Advocate’s William Kelley. He added it ‘wouldn’t surprise me’ if it ended up surpassing the 2019 and 2020 in quality.

Jane Anson who said it has ‘tension and subdued power’ gave it a score of 94-points.

Fair Value analysis

Les Carmes Haut Brion prices are 59% correlated to James Suckling scores. Liv-ex members on Silver+ packages can view these via the Fair Value Tool.

The new release comes at a significant discount to the 2018, 2019 and 2020 vintages. However, buyers looking for other options might want to consider the 2012 vintage. With several years in bottle and 94-points from Robert Parker, it is available at a 2.5% discount to today’s release.

With a slightly lower score from Neal Martin of 93-points, the 2017 vintage is also available at a small discount.
