CONTENT

  • Château Haut-Brion 2021 has been released at £5,100 per 12×75.
  • Neal Martin scored the wine 95-97 points.
  • There is value in the 2015, 2018 and 2019 back vintages.

As part of this year’s Bordeaux En Primeur campaign, Château Haut-Brion 2021 has been released at €420 per bottle ex-négociant, down 2.8% on the 2020’s opening price.

It is being offered by the international trade for £5,100 per 12×75. The new release is slightly over the ‘fair value’ line and there are perhaps better buying opportunities in back vintages. See more pricing analysis below.

Critics’ scores

The wine was scored 95-97 by both Neal Martin and Antonio Galloni at Vinous. Martin wrote that it was a contender for ‘wine of the vintage’.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW (The Wine Independent) remarked that it was a ‘different style and expression’ of the estate after recent vintages but ‘equally evocative and simply gorgeous’. She scored it 93-95 points.

William Kelley (Wine Advocate) rated it 96-98 points, saying it was ‘a timeless classic in the making’.

Fair Value analysis

Today’s opening price comes at a slight premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s Fair Value methodology. Buyers looking for value might be interested in the similarly scored 2018, which is available for less.

Buyers might also consider the 2020, 2015 and 2019 vintages, which have scores of 97-98 points from Martin and are on the market for roughly the same price as the 2021.
