Visitable Winery – Lefkada

History

The history of “Lefkas Earth” started in 2000 when Dimitris Rombotis, graduate of wine studies with experience as responsible vine-dresser in several wine-cellars around Greece, established the first wine cellar in the village of Sivros in South Lefkas.

He took the advantage of the local varieties and, knowing well the know-how of wine, achieved high quality levels from the very first winemaking. His close collaboration with the wine producers of the area resulted in high quality first material and led to the plantation of new vineyards.

Following the requests of modern times we have moved to the construction of a modern winery which is open to the public and it is situated on the main road of Nydri – Vassiliki, above Sivota, offering a new blow and new dynamics, for even better results.

Winemaking

Wine is tradition, knowhow, is a place, it’s human history and culture.

Believing in these and targeting the ultimate quality, we’ve created a complex of four buildings, in harmony with the inclined ground and the characteristics of the layout of the area without deviating from the strategic goal of the successful production line. The wine-making and bottling takes place in the two large buildings.

The modern equipment consists of stainless fermentation tanks with temperature control in every step of the production, pre-fermentation tanks, stabilization tanks, destemmer and pumps that ensure the minimum strain on the grapes, oak barrels for the ageing, a laboratory for quality control, automatic and semi-automatic bottling equipment as well as an air-conditioned cellar for the ageing of the already bottled wine.

Local Varieties

Vardea and Vertzami are grown only in Lefkada. The white Vardea is cultivate on the south, in the villages of Agios Petros, Sivros, Vassiliki, Kontarena and less in Marantohori. From this we make the “Lefkadian Land White”, a wine with many distinctions and fanatic friends.

Lefkada is a large and fertile island has much to offer visitors and residents alike. Impressive landscapes, large, golden beaches, traditional villages, charming capital, archaeological sites and museums, local cuisine and wine delights of the unique traditional varieties.

From the red variety Vertzami we produce “Lefkadian Land Dry Red”, where it ages in barrels for 8-12 months, while from the same variety but from vineyards with a higher altitude and a different vinification method we produce “Lefkadian Land Dry Rosé”.

Melidonos is a sweet wine produced by combining the Vertzami and Patrino varieties, after first being dried for 6-8 days.

Dry White Wine
We got riper grapes of the vineyard from the local variety of shifts. Careful vinification and aging for 6 months in oak barrels young have a wine with rich flavor, intense shine, pleasant acidity and aromas of yellow fruit with notes of vanilla, honey and nuts.

SKIN CONTACT

Dry White Wine
We picked grapes Lefkadian variety shifts, the position Bell Towers South Lefkada. We started with skin contact extraction at 5 ° C for 24 hours (skin contact), then in modern vinification and maturation 6 months. The result is a wine with finesse and aromatic complexity.

Visits

The productive procedure of whichever product has its charm for whoever is interested in acquainting themselves with it from up close. Even more so when this product happens to be wine. A tour of our winery is an interesting recommendation for the holiday maker to add a touch of flavour to their stay. The guided tour is both pleasant and enlightening. Lasting from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the available time and interest of the visitor. The talk begins with a brief retrospection of traditional wine-making methods and vine cultivation in Lefkada, as well as an exhibition tour of old wine making and farming tools.
In the adjacent building, there is a room dedicated to olive oil, its production and the olive press. After the exhibition, there is a walk through the vine yard leading to the winery, where the "know-how" and state of the art equipment have first say in the production of our wine. This being the place where the visitor can become acquainted with productive procedures, fermentation and bottling. Having pasted through the vine yard with the aromatic vines of the area, our visitor arrives at the wine tasting hall, where they can savour the wines and purchase from the fine selection available.

how to find us...

You can visit the winery driving to the south of the Island. It is situated in the 8th km of the Nydri-Vassiliki road. Driving from Nidri to Vasiliki is on the right side of the road, 500m after the cross road of Sivros.
The distance is 24 km from the town of Lefkas, 8 km from Nydri and 12 km from Vassiliki.
